Madina MP Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu collapsed while speaking at a GIMPA event on Thursday afternoon and was assisted off stage by SRC officials.

The incident happened at about 2:15pm at the Graduate Block Auditorium of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), where Mr Sosu had been invited as a guest speaker at a Students’ Representative Council (SRC)-organised event.

Video footage from the event shows the MP speaking on stage before suddenly appearing weak and struggling to continue his address. He subsequently collapsed, prompting an immediate response from officials at the event.

The SRC President and Vice President rushed to the dais and helped carry Mr Sosu off the stage, while attendees watched the unfolding incident.

The Observer Times understands that the MP was subsequently taken for medical attention and is reportedly in stable condition and responding to treatment.

The cause of the collapse was not immediately known at the time of publication, and no further details about his condition were available.

Mr Sosu is a lawyer and Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He is a member of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic. He also serves as Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.
