President Mahama rings Nasdaq closing bell, declares Ghana ‘open for business’
President John Dramani Mahama has assured the international business community that Ghana is “open for business.”
Speaking during a visit to the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square on Tuesday, September 23, 2026, President Mahama said the historic ceremony, during which he rang the closing bell of the Nasdaq Stock Exchange in New York, symbolised the significance of the economic ties between Ghana and the United States.
President Mahama’s participation in the Nasdaq closing-bell ceremony also offered Ghana an opportunity to present its investment potential to the international business community.
Ahead of the ceremony, the iconic Nasdaq billboard in Times Square displayed an image of President Mahama alongside the message: “Ghana is Open for Business.”
The President was accompanied by officials and representatives from Ghana’s economic and investment sectors for the ceremony.
He received applause from Nasdaq officials after ringing the closing bell.
“Thank you,” President Mahama said in response to the applause.
The ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, where President Mahama has been engaging world leaders, international institutions and private-sector stakeholders.
