Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, widow of late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, broke down in tears during the musician’s first-anniversary commemoration as she publicly appealed to her late husband to vindicate her from allegations linking her to his death.

The emotional scene unfolded on Sunday, July 26, 2026, exactly one year after the death of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known throughout Ghana and beyond as Daddy Lumba.

Addressing family members, friends and sympathisers who gathered to remember the celebrated musician, Odo Broni spoke about their years together and the care she said she provided for him, before turning her attention to accusations that have followed her since his death.

Fighting back tears, she insisted she never entered the relationship with Daddy Lumba with any intention of harming him and recalled statements she said the musician repeatedly made about the important role she played in his life.

“Papa, I never lived with you with bad intentions. You always told me that if you had not met me, you would have been dead by now. You made me feel like a queen, and you testified to everyone about how good I was to you,” she said.

But the most emotional moment came when Odo Broni addressed allegations and speculation suggesting that she may have had something to do with Daddy Lumba’s death.

She appealed directly to the memory of the musician to clear her name, saying the accusations had caused her considerable pain during the year following his passing.

“You always told people to thank me for taking such good care of you. Papa, please prove my innocence and show the world that I had no hand in your death. I have suffered so much because of all the allegations that I had a hand in your death. Papa, I am begging you,” she said.

Her emotional appeal comes against the backdrop of months of controversy surrounding the circumstances of Daddy Lumba’s death and demands by some members of his family for further investigation.

Daddy Lumba died on July 26, 2025, aged 60. Following his death, questions emerged within sections of the family over the circumstances leading to his passing.

A petition dated November 11, 2025, and presented in the name of some members of the late musician’s family requested an independent investigation by the National Intelligence Bureau into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Among those named as petitioners were Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, Ernestina Fosuh and other relatives and associates.

The petition cited what the petitioners described as conflicting accounts about the events preceding Daddy Lumba’s death and requested that investigators obtain statements from several individuals, including Odo Broni.

The family members also requested the examination of relevant CCTV footage and medical, police and administrative records from facilities they said were connected to events preceding the musician’s death.

The allegations contained in that petition remain allegations and requests for investigation; they do not by themselves establish wrongdoing by Odo Broni or any other person.

According to one account referenced in the petition, a police report to the Coroner stated that Daddy Lumba, who was described as diabetic, complained of leg and waist pain on July 24, 2025, and was taken to Sunshine Diagnostic Centre for an MRI scan.

The account stated that he was sedated because of agitation and fear and subsequently developed severe pain before being transferred to The Bank Hospital, where his death was recorded on July 26.

The petitioners, however, claimed they had received other versions of what happened and consequently wanted authorities to independently establish the timeline and circumstances surrounding the musician’s final hours.

The dispute over his death became part of a much broader family conflict that subsequently involved his funeral, burial, marital status, estate and leadership of his maternal family.

Akosua Serwaa subsequently went to court over her marital status, while Odo Broni also became a central figure in litigation surrounding who should legally be recognised as Daddy Lumba’s surviving spouse.

In November 2025, the Kumasi High Court recognised both Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni as surviving wives of the musician, although aspects of that judgment have subsequently been challenged on appeal.

Daddy Lumba’s funeral was eventually held on December 13, 2025, following legal battles over attempts to stop the ceremony.

Further controversy later erupted over reports that the musician had been buried at his private residence at East Legon in Accra.

The alleged private burial attracted the attention of Ga traditional authorities, who raised concerns about customary requirements surrounding burials on Ga land and summoned the then family head, Victor Kofi Owusu, popularly known as Abusuapanin Tupac, for clarification.

As the first anniversary approached, disagreements again surfaced within the family over who had authority to organise activities commemorating Daddy Lumba.

Against that turbulent background, Odo Broni’s anniversary tribute became one of the most emotional moments of the commemoration.

She had also marked the anniversary by unveiling a tattoo bearing the words “Forever In Our Heart” in memory of the musician.

The family additionally unveiled what it presented as Daddy Lumba’s final resting place in a newly constructed structure behind his East Legon residence, bringing renewed public attention to a burial location that had previously generated controversy.

Videos of Odo Broni crying while appealing to Daddy Lumba to vindicate her quickly circulated on social media, attracting messages of sympathy as well as renewed discussion about the controversies that have persisted since the musician’s death.

“Papa, please prove my innocence,” she pleaded as she remembered the man with whom she shared years of her life.
