The long-running dispute surrounding the marital status and family affairs of late Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has taken another legal turn after one of his surviving widows, Akosua Serwaa, dragged two individuals to the Kumasi High Court over alleged defamatory statements concerning her marriage to the late musician.

Akosua Serwaa has sued Victor Kofi Owusu, popularly known as Abusuapanin Tupac, and Alex Kofi Boadi Ampong, known as Sir Alex, accusing them of making and circulating statements that allegedly questioned the authenticity of her German marriage certificate and, by extension, her status as a legally married wife of Daddy Lumba.

The case adds to a series of legal battles that have followed the death of Daddy Lumba on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60. Since his passing, disagreements over his marital status, funeral arrangements, family leadership, inheritance and control of his estate have generated competing claims from members of his family and women who say they were married to the musician.

At the centre of Akosua Serwaa’s latest lawsuit is a German marriage document which she has relied upon in asserting that she contracted a civil marriage with Daddy Lumba. She is challenging what she considers false claims that the document was fake, forged or fabricated.

According to the statement of claim, some of the disputed comments were made by Victor Kofi Owusu during an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz programme on November 29, 2025.

The discussion reportedly touched on Akosua Serwaa’s relationship with Daddy Lumba and the German marriage certificate she presented as evidence of their civil marriage.

Akosua Serwaa alleges that statements made during the programme suggested that the certificate was not genuine. She maintains that such assertions were false and defamatory because they allegedly portrayed her as someone relying on a fraudulent document to establish a marriage that did not exist.

The plaintiff has further rejected allegations that the marriage document was manufactured or forged in Ashanti New Town or elsewhere in Kumasi. She argues that the repeated publication of such claims has damaged her reputation and created doubts about her integrity, honesty and marital status.

The controversy has its roots in the wider court battle over Daddy Lumba’s wives. Following the musician’s death, Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, became central figures in a legal dispute over their respective marital relationships with the late musician.

In a ruling delivered by a Kumasi High Court on November 28, 2025, the court recognised both Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni as surviving wives of Daddy Lumba on the basis of customary marriages.

However, the court did not accept the German marriage document presented by Akosua Serwaa as conclusive proof of a valid civil marriage contracted in Germany.

The ruling subsequently became the subject of an appeal by Akosua Serwaa, whose legal team argued that the trial court had failed to properly evaluate evidence supporting her claim of a civil marriage. Her lawyers pointed to evidence including cohabitation, photographs, eyewitness testimony, children, correspondence and other documentary materials.

The dispute over the German certificate therefore became an important part of the broader disagreement over Akosua Serwaa’s marital status and her position in matters concerning Daddy Lumba’s estate.

The latest lawsuit alleges that the disputed claims did not end with the November 2025 television appearance. Akosua Serwaa says similar allegations resurfaced in publications dated June 8 and July 5, 2026, extending the controversy into social media and other digital platforms.

She argues that the continued circulation of the allegations has caused further damage to her reputation because members of the public have allegedly repeated the claims as though they had already been established as facts.

The plaintiff also contends that the television and social-media platforms involved gave the allegations significant reach.

She argues that comments made on United Showbiz could reach a large national audience, while material posted on TikTok could easily be recorded, shared and reposted across multiple platforms.

According to her case, the alleged publications have also triggered abusive and hostile comments from some social media users, with individuals allegedly relying on the disputed claims to attack her personally.

Akosua Serwaa further claims that the controversy has implications beyond her family life because she is a nurse based in Germany. She argues that allegations suggesting she forged or relied on a fraudulent German marriage certificate could affect perceptions of her professional integrity and trustworthiness.

The lawsuit also links the alleged defamatory statements to her dignity and standing as Daddy Lumba’s widow. She maintains that repeated questions over whether she was genuinely married to the musician have undermined her position in ongoing family and estate-related matters.

In seeking legal redress, Akosua Serwaa is asking the Kumasi High Court to declare that the statements attributed to the defendants are false and defamatory.

She is also seeking a permanent injunction preventing Victor Kofi Owusu, Alex Kofi Boadi Ampong, their representatives or anyone acting on their behalf from publishing or repeating allegations that her German marriage certificate is fake, forged or fabricated.

The proposed injunction would also prevent further publication of claims that the document was manufactured in Ashanti New Town, Kumasi, or assertions that she was never legally married to Daddy Lumba.

Beyond the injunction, Akosua Serwaa is demanding a public retraction and an unqualified apology from the defendants. In relation to Victor Kofi Owusu, she wants the apology and retraction published through UTV and other television, online and social-media platforms where the alleged statements were disseminated, subject to the court’s directions.

She is also demanding GH¢3 million in general and aggravated damages, or such other amount as the court may consider appropriate.
