UESD empowers media to drive climate action through green journalism
The University of Environment and Sustainable Development, UESD, has concluded a two-day training program for members of the Eastern Regional chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA, aimed at equipping journalists with the tools to report effectively on climate change, sustainability, and innovation.
Held at the Abraham Hills Hotel in Koforidua, the two-day initiative brought together GJA members from across the Eastern Region for intensive sessions on environmental reporting, data journalism, and science communication.
Speaking at the opening, officials said the goal is to strengthen the media’s role in shaping public understanding and driving climate action in Ghana.
“Journalists are critical partners in the fight against climate change,” a UESD representative noted. “When stories on environment and sustainability are told accurately, they influence policy, business decisions, and community behavior.”
Participants were taken through modules on green reporting techniques, fact-checking climate data, and using storytelling to highlight local solutions to global challenges.
Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong, Registrar of UESD, said the university sees the media as key allies in achieving its mission. She added that the university will continue to create platforms for collaboration between academia and the media.
