Police arrest, interdict officer over hit-and-run death of 23-year-old law student
The Ghana Police Service has identified, arrested and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the death of 23-year-old Central University law student Ivan Baidoo.
The Police said the officer’s identification and arrest followed initial investigations into a viral video concerning the incident, which occurred on the Tema Motorway on August 27, 2026.
In a statement, the Service said the Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is intensifying investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has also been tasked with investigating the conduct of General Corporal Koranteng, who is currently in custody.
The Service said, “The Ghana Police Service assures the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations.”
The development comes after widespread public concern over the circumstances surrounding Ivan Baidoo’s death.
Ivan, a Level 200 law student at Central University, died following an incident involving a motorcycle on the Tema Motorway on August 27. His family subsequently petitioned the CID for a full investigation into the circumstances of his death.
The family had also offered a GH¢50,000 reward for credible information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of persons responsible for the incident.
The Police have not yet disclosed the full circumstances of the incident, stressing that investigations are ongoing.
