The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned prospective parliamentary candidates that campaigning before the party publishes its official timetable could threaten their eligibility to compete in the parliamentary primaries.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said it had received reports that some potential aspirants were already campaigning in constituencies ahead of the formal selection process.

The NPP has instructed all prospective aspirants, together with their agents and supporters, to stop such activities immediately. The directive covers the erection of posters, billboards and banners, as well as the organisation of rallies and constituency tours.

It also prohibits candidates and their backers from distributing items or offering other inducements to delegates and party members. Paid advertising in the traditional media and on social media to promote prospective candidates is also banned.

The party further warned its officials against assisting or publicising premature campaigns. The caution applies to officers at polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels, as well as members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON).

According to the NPP, early campaigning breaches the party’s regulations, gives some aspirants an unfair advantage and threatens the unity and discipline needed for the organisation to succeed.

Anyone who ignores the order could face disciplinary proceedings under the party’s regulations and Code of Conduct. The NPP said such action could affect the individual’s eligibility to contest in the parliamentary primaries.

The party has not yet released the timetable or guidelines for the parliamentary selection process, saying those details will be announced in due course.

Constituency and regional executives have been directed to enforce the instruction strictly and ensure that all prospective aspirants, their agents and supporters comply.
