A major internal crisis is unfolding within the Eastern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following a formal petition demanding immediate disciplinary action against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Hon. Solomon Kusi Brako.

The petition, filed by UK-based Akim Oda constituency member Mr. Ansah Philip Adu, accuses the MCE of gross misconduct prejudicial to the party’s interests. He accuses Mr Kusi Brako of engaging in public conduct that severely compromises the integrity, unity, and public image of the party.

A Barefoot Curse and Media Tour

At the heart of the controversy is a video that has widely circulated across social media platforms. According to the petition, Hon. Solomon Kusi Brako personally uploaded a video to his official Facebook page showing him barefooted, invoking traditional curses against the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akim Oda Constituency, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah.

Rather than walking back the incident, the MCE reportedly embarked on a media tour. The petition notes that in subsequent interviews with various media houses, Hon. Brako openly acknowledged the authenticity of the video, confirming that he was indeed the individual captured invoking the curses.

Bringing the Party into Ridicule

Mr. Ansah Philip Adu argues that as a senior public office holder appointed under an NDC administration, the MCE is held to a higher standard of decorum. The petitioner asserts that the public outburst and the resulting media frenzy have subjected the NDC to public ridicule, undermining the standards of discipline expected from high-ranking party figures.

The petition formally invokes Articles 39, 40, and 41 of the NDC Constitution. Under Articles 39 and 40, all party members are mandated to uphold the good name of the NDC. The constitution explicitly states that any conduct prejudicial to the party’s interests, or likely to bring it into hatred and contempt, is grounds for disciplinary action. Article 41 outlines the official framework for investigating such grievances.

Five Clear Demands for Justice

The petitioner has copied key party stakeholders, including the NDC Eastern Regional Chairman, the Regional General Secretary, and the Akim Oda Constituency Chairman, attaching video links, screenshots, and interview transcripts as evidence.

The document concludes with five direct prayers to the Eastern Regional Executive Committee:

1. Acknowledge the petition formally under the guidelines of Article 41.
2. Refer the matter directly to the appropriate Disciplinary Committee.
3. Invite Hon. Solomon Kusi Brako to give his defense, ensuring the rules of natural justice are upheld.
4. Determine whether a constitutional breach has occurred regarding Articles 39 and 40.
5. Enforce strict sanctions if the MCE is found guilty of compromising the party's image.

“Respect for the Party's Constitution must apply equally to every member, irrespective of the office he or she occupies,” Mr. Adu stated, emphasizing that the petition was filed in good faith to preserve the party's integrity ahead of critical political cycles.

The Eastern Regional Executive Committee has yet to issue an official statement on how it intends to proceed with the case.

PETITION FOR DISCIPLINARY ACTION AGAINST HON. SOLOMON KUSI BRAKO FOR CONDUCT ALLEGED TO BE PREJUDICIAL TO THE INTERESTS OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (NDC) PURSUANT TO ARTICLES 39, 40 AND 41 OF THE PARTY'S CONSTITUTION

I, Mr. Ansah Philip Adu, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Akim Oda Constituency, currently residing in the United Kingdom, respectfully submit this petition requesting the Party to invoke its disciplinary processes against Hon. Solomon Kusi Brako, the Municipal Chief Executive for Birim Central Municipality.

This petition is based on facts that are already in the public domain. Hon. Solomon Kusi Brako personally published on his official Facebook page a video in which he is seen barefooted invoking curses against the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda Constituency, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah. Subsequently, he granted interviews to various media houses in which he acknowledged the authenticity of the video and confirmed that he was the individual featured in it.

As a senior public office holder appointed by an NDC Government, Hon. Solomon Kusi Brako is expected to conduct himself in a manner that upholds the values, dignity and reputation of the National Democratic Congress. The conduct complained of has generated widespread public discussion and media attention and, in my respectful view, is capable of bringing the Party into disrepute and undermining public confidence in the standards of discipline expected of its officers.

Articles 39 and 40 of the Constitution of the National Democratic Congress require every member to uphold the unity, discipline and good name of the Party. They further provide that a member may be subjected to disciplinary action where his or her conduct is prejudicial to the interests of the Party or is likely to embarrass, ridicule, or bring the Party into hatred or contempt. Article 41 provides the procedure through which complaints against members may be submitted and investigated by the appropriate Party organs.

In view of the foregoing, I respectfully pray that the Eastern Regional Executive Committee:

1. Receive and acknowledge this petition in accordance with Article 41 of the Party's Constitution.
2. Refer the matter to the appropriate Disciplinary Committee for investigation.
3. Invite Hon. Solomon Kusi Brako to respond to the issues raised in this petition in accordance with the rules of natural justice.
4. Determine whether the conduct complained of constitutes a breach of Articles 39 and 40 of the Party's Constitution.
5. Where a breach is established, impose the appropriate disciplinary sanctions prescribed under the Party's Constitution.

This petition is presented in good faith and in the overriding interest of preserving the integrity, unity, discipline and public image of the National Democratic Congress. Respect for the Party's Constitution must apply equally to every member, irrespective of the office he or she occupies.

I trust that the Regional Executive Committee will treat this matter with the seriousness, fairness and impartiality it deserves.
