The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has launched the National Horticultural Seed Roadmap to strengthen Ghana’s horticultural seed sector and improve farmers’ access to quality seeds and seedlings.

Launched on Thursday, September 17, 2026, in Accra, the Roadmap provides strategic direction for the next three to five years, with a focus on increasing the availability, accessibility and use of improved planting materials suited to Ghanaian conditions.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Setor Dumelo, said the roadmap was an important step towards building a stronger and more responsive seed system.

Implementation will prioritise:

• Strengthening local seed production and enterprises

• Improving farmers’ access to quality seeds and seedlings

• Supporting the development of varieties suited to Ghanaian conditions

• Establishing clear responsibilities, timelines and financing arrangements

The Netherlands Embassy, represented by Madam Inge Tenniglo, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s horticultural seed sector and described the roadmap as “laying the foundation for the future of Ghana’s horticulture sector.”

The launch brought together stakeholders from government, the seed industry, research institutions, farmer organisations and development partners.
