The international manhunt for a 32-year-old errand and garden boy accused of killing a medical doctor and his wife has ended with the suspect back in Ghana and in police custody, following his deportation from the United Arab Emirates.

Abraham Awundok is accused of murdering Dr. Jesse Amuah, a medical doctor, and his wife, Elizabeth Esi Amuah, before allegedly stealing their mobile phones, money and private vehicle and fleeing the country.

The case began attracting serious attention after the couple reportedly disappeared from public view in March 2026.

According to the account of the case, Dr. Jesse Amuah and Elizabeth Esi Amuah were last seen on March 23, 2026. Their disappearance subsequently triggered a formal missing-person report on April 22, after family members reportedly visited their residence and found the house locked.

The missing couple’s Nissan Sunny vehicle was also nowhere to be found, deepening concerns among relatives and prompting investigations into their whereabouts.

Investigation Turns to Their Errand Boy

As investigators worked to establish what had happened to the couple, suspicion eventually turned towards Awundok, who had reportedly worked for the deceased couple as an errand and garden boy.

According to the police account cited in the report, investigators believe Awundok killed the couple before taking possession of their mobile phones, an unspecified amount of money and their vehicle.

The investigation subsequently took an international dimension after the suspect reportedly left Ghana for the United Arab Emirates.

With the accused believed to have escaped the jurisdiction, the Ghana Police Service worked with INTERPOL to pursue him.

A Red Notice was issued as efforts intensified to locate and apprehend him.

The international pursuit eventually led to Awundok’s return to Ghana.

On August 30, 2026, investigators from the Ghana Police Service’s Anti-Armed Robbery Unit, working with INTERPOL, reportedly secured his deportation from Dubai to Ghana.

He was subsequently taken into police custody as investigators continued efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.

A major breakthrough reportedly came during police interrogation when Awundok allegedly admitted to the murders.

The stolen Nissan Sunny vehicle has also since been recovered, according to the report.

Police Continue Investigations

The Ghana Police Service formally announced the development on September 7, 2026, describing the arrest and deportation of the 32-year-old suspect as a major breakthrough in the investigation.
