In a dramatic turn of events, Hon. Solomon Brako Kusi, MCE for Birim Central, has invoked traditional curses on Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, MP for Akyem Oda, over allegations of illegal mining (galamsey).

Standing by a river in Akyem Oda in a video that has gone viral on social media, the MCE said, "If I am involved in galamsey, let the gods of Akyem Kotoku bring me down," Solomon Kusi said while accusing the MP of fabricating false and malicious claims against him.

He added, "But let the gods deal with him if he is trying to lie against me and cause my downfall."

Hon. Brako Kusi called on the ancestral spirits to attest to his innocence and requested divine vengeance if the accusations were untrue.

He proclaimed, "Let the curses of Nananom come upon those who seek to destroy my name with lies, especially Mr. Akwasi Acquah."

The dramatic invocation comes after Hon. Acquah had accused the MCE of benefiting from galamsey activities in the area. The MP’s comments have sparked outrage among supporters of the MCE, who believe the allegations are politically motivated.

The MCE, who had gone to the river with sheep, also pledged to return and give thanks to the gods if Alexander Acquah and him were judged favourably.

The curse incantation has been called "unprecedented" by the locals of Akyem Oda, but they also claim that it illustrates the stark differences between the two presidents. Some are demanding that the MCE be sacked because they think that storming a river to cast curses is not a sign of a good leader.

As of the time of publication, Hon. Acquasi Acquah had not officially responded to the curse invocation.
