Bawumia begins Thank You Tour in Bono East Region
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a series of thanksgiving services and a post-conference engagement tour led by its 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, following the party’s National Delegates Conference, which produced a new set of national executives to steer its affairs ahead of the next general election.
The activities, scheduled to begin in Techiman in the Bono East Region on Friday, October 16, 2026, will bring together the party’s presidential candidate, newly elected national officers, religious leaders, current and former Members of Parliament, former ministers, former chief executives of state institutions, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and other former government appointees.
According to the programme released by the party, the events are intended to thank God for what the leadership describes as a peaceful and successful National Delegates Conference, while providing an opportunity for the party to reconnect with its members, supporters and sympathisers after the internal electoral contest.
The Muslim thanksgiving service is scheduled for Friday, October 16, at 12:30 p.m. in Techiman. The programme will subsequently move to Goaso, where Dr Bawumia and the party leadership are expected to fellowship with the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church on Saturday, October 17, between 10:00 a.m. and noon.
The Christian thanksgiving programme will continue on Sunday, October 18, at the Pentecost Church’s F. D. Walker Memorial Temple in Sunyani, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The service is being held under the biblical theme, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise, give thanks to him and praise his name,” drawn from Psalm 100:4.
The NPP leadership has invited party members, supporters, sympathisers and the general public to participate in the services as part of efforts to express gratitude for the successful organisation of the national conference and the election of new officers.
The thanksgiving activities are also expected to provide a public platform for party leaders to emphasise unity and collective responsibility at a time when the NPP is preparing for the next phase of its political activities following the internal elections.
Dr Bawumia, who won the NPP’s presidential primary in January 2026 to become the party’s candidate for the 2028 general election, is expected to use the engagements to begin a broader outreach programme alongside the newly elected national executives.
Since securing the party’s presidential nomination, the former Vice-President had not embarked on the kind of post-election thank-you tour now being announced. The upcoming programme therefore marks the beginning of an opportunity for him to engage party stakeholders and supporters in the regions, with the national officers joining him in the initial activities.
The decision to combine thanksgiving services with political outreach comes against the background of the NPP’s recent internal elections, which were held to select the leadership expected to reorganise the party and coordinate its preparations for the 2028 polls.
The National Delegates Conference, held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, saw delegates electing new national officers, including John Boadu as National Chairman and Justin Frimpong Kodua as General Secretary.
