The final funeral rites for celebrated Ghanaian inventor, industrialist, philanthropist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, marking the final farewell to one of the most influential religious and technological pioneers.

Funeral arrangements released by the Kristo Asafo Mission, the Kantanka Family and the Funeral Planning Committee indicate that the burial service will take place at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, where family members, church faithful, traditional leaders and sympathisers are expected to gather to pay their last respects to the late Apostle.

A national funeral and final funeral rites ceremony will subsequently be held at the Independence Square in Accra on Friday, July 31, 2026, where thousands of mourners from across Ghana and abroad are anticipated to honour the memory and legacy of the renowned inventor and spiritual leader.

The funeral arrangements were announced by the Head of the Kantanka Family, Sarah Adwoa Safo, together with officials of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

According to the programme, a thanksgiving service will also be organised at Jackson Park in Kumasi on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as part of activities celebrating the extraordinary life and contributions of the late Apostle.

Widely known by many Ghanaians as “Kantanka,” Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo became one of the most recognised figures in Ghana’s technological and religious landscape through decades of innovation, industrialisation and evangelism.

Born with a passion for engineering and spiritual leadership, he founded the Kristo Asafo Mission in 1971 and later established the Kantanka Group, which evolved into one of Ghana’s most prominent indigenous industrial conglomerates.

Over the years, Apostle Safo became a symbol of local innovation and African self-reliance, particularly through his advocacy for indigenous manufacturing and technological advancement.

His automobile manufacturing initiative, Kantanka Automobile, gained continental attention for producing made-in-Ghana vehicles designed to suit African terrain and local conditions.

The company’s vehicles, including saloon cars, SUVs, pickups and utility vehicles, became widely celebrated as examples of Ghanaian engineering capability and efforts toward industrial independence.

Beyond vehicle manufacturing, Apostle Safo was credited with numerous inventions and engineering breakthroughs in electronics, agriculture, machinery, energy systems and manufacturing technologies.

His annual technology exhibitions attracted national and international attention, with thousands attending to witness locally developed inventions and prototypes aimed at transforming the industrial sector.
