Who is Tomi Thomas, Efya’s reported husband-to-be?
Nigerian singer Tomi Thomas is set to marry Ghanaian musician Efya, with the couple reportedly preparing for wedding celebrations this weekend after their families held a traditional knocking ceremony on 14 February 2026.
Thomas, a singer, songwriter and performer, first came to prominence as a member and lead vocalist of Nigerian music collective Loud On Sound, widely known as LOS. He later established a solo career spanning Afro-pop, R&B, hip-hop, soul, reggae and dancehall.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, on 9 November 1992, Thomas reportedly spent parts of his childhood in Kano and Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States. He is also said to have Yoruba, Igbo and Brazilian ancestry.
Details of his early education are limited, although reports indicate that he attended school in Lagos and Kano before continuing part of his formative years in Atlanta. He later moved to Dubai for university and reportedly studied at Middlesex University while developing his interest in music.
Thomas began his professional career with LOS in 2010. The group attracted attention with songs including Bad Guy P and On Fire, and reportedly drew collaborations with Nigerian rapper Sarkodie and American group Black Eyed Peas.
While studying in Dubai, Thomas moved towards a solo career. He released his debut solo EP, Patience, in 2014, featuring the single Ready or Not. The project allowed him to develop his own musical identity after his time with the group.
He has since worked with performers from different parts of the music industry, including Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer Buju Banton and American rapper Wale. His recordings and collaborations have helped him build a profile in Africa’s contemporary music scene while seeking an audience beyond Nigeria.
Music journalist Myers Hansen has described Thomas’ catalogue as having the potential to remain relevant beyond short-lived musical trends, citing his focus on developing a lasting body of work.
Thomas is in a relationship with award-winning Ghanaian singer Efya, whose full name is Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor. The pair have kept much of their relationship private, and little is publicly known about how they met or when their romance began.
Their families reportedly held a traditional knocking ceremony on 14 February 2026. Efya’s management later clarified that it was not a completed wedding, saying the customary family processes had not yet been concluded.
Interest in the relationship increased after Efya posted a photograph of herself with Thomas on Instagram on 5 November 2026. She wrote: “Some things are written in the stars. Others find their way underneath your skin.”
The post followed reports that Efya had held a bachelorette party on Wednesday, 4 November. Reports gathered indicate that the couple are expected to marry this weekend, although details of the ceremony have not been disclosed. Pregnancy reports have also circulated, but have not been officially confirmed.
