The Headmaster of Kpassa Senior High Technical School, Rockson Kwame Tawiah, has been removed from office for collecting unauthorized fees from students.

A committee set up by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) found him culpable of collecting GH¢150 from each of the school’s 2,900 students, amounting to a total of GH¢435,000.

The headmaster allegedly imposed the fine to compensate for the loss of some school items, including 27 ceiling fans, lamp holders, and bulbs.

Students who took the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) were also forced to pay the fine, with a threat to block their results if they failed to comply.

Additionally, newly admitted students were required to buy a ream of A4 bond paper and a mini-bucket of emulsion paint, which were not part of the approved prospectus.

The GES took swift action after the incident came to light, directing Rockson Tawiah to report to the Oti Regional Directorate of the GES for reassignment.

The Director-General of the GES also ordered the headmaster to refund all the money collected from parents and students.

The GES has initiated comprehensive investigations into the conduct of Tawiah and will take necessary corrective measures.
