Award-winning Ghanaian fashion designer Selina Beb has revealed that her journey to building a globally recognised fashion brand began with just GH¢200, proving that determination and creativity can outweigh financial limitations.

Speaking about her entrepreneurial journey, Selina Beb recounted how she took the first step toward her dream in 2012 by combining African print fabrics with genuine leather to create distinctive fashion accessories.

Despite having limited capital, she said she already possessed one of the most important ingredients for her business—a growing collection of African print fabrics she had acquired over the years because of her love for African fashion.

“I had a lot of African prints because I love African prints. I used to buy some and hold them and keep them because I always saw my mom having loads of different kinds of African prints,” she said.

With the fabrics already in her possession, Selina Beb said she invested her GH¢200 in purchasing genuine leather, which she used to produce her first collection of African print and leather bags.

Her vision, she explained, was to blend the richness of African culture with contemporary fashion by creating products that celebrated Ghanaian identity while appealing to customers beyond the country's borders.

What began as a modest experiment has since evolved into a successful fashion brand that has earned international recognition and showcased Ghanaian creativity on the global stage.

Reflecting on her journey, Selina Beb acknowledged that entrepreneurship has come with numerous challenges, but said the achievements have made every hurdle worthwhile.

“There have been lots of challenges, but there have been lots of highs and achievements, so I’ll say it’s been worth it,” she said.

She encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs and young creatives not to be discouraged by a lack of capital, stressing that success often begins with taking the first step using the resources available.

According to her, believing in one's vision and having the courage to put ideas into action are the foundations of every successful business.
